From a search to a ranked list

Follow one run step by step.

Step

01 Define the search

Choose a region – postal code or district – and an industry. OutdateRadar collects the matching companies from business directories.

02 Fetch the website

One request to the homepage, a check for the sitemap and – if the homepage has no contact form – the contact page. No browser, no scripts: a page that needs JavaScript is marked as such, not rated.

  1. GET/Homepage
  2. HEAD/sitemap.xmlSitemap
  3. GET/contactOnly if the homepage has no contact form

Plain HTTP – no headless browser

03 Check the rules

Almost 40 rules in three weighted areas. Each one has a fixed deduction and is labelled as measured or heuristic.

  • jQuery older than 3.6measured−15
  • WordPress older than 6.6measured−10

A selection of the rules, with their deductions in points.

04 Rank the results

Each area starts at 100 and loses points for every deduction. Weighted together, they give a score from 0 to 100 that sorts each website into a band. For websites in the Hot and Warm bands, a PDF report can be created.

Score = technology × 0.4 + usability × 0.4 + conversion × 0.2

Hot0–40
Warm41–70
Cold71–100
Not measurableBlocked, failed or script-only pages get no score – not a bad one.

Principles

  1. Rules, not guesswork

Every deduction is a named rule with a fixed value – traceable for anyone who reads the report.

  2. Not measurable is not bad

What OutdateRadar cannot read reliably is left out instead of being counted against a website.

  3. Indications, not verdicts

A result is a starting point for a conversation, not a final judgement on a website.
